Mindset Over Moment: Don’t Just Wait for the Breakdown—Start Walking Now

Mindset Over Moment: Don’t Just Wait for the Breakdown—Start Walking Now

We often romanticize the idea of rock bottom.

We think that change begins with collapse. That you have to be broken before you can be rebuilt. That transformation only arrives after pain pushes you to the edge.

But here’s what I’ve learned on my journey—one step at a time:

You don’t have to hit bottom to rise. You just have to start walking.

At the One Step Walking Club, we walk for wellness, for reflection, and for reconnection with ourselves. But deeper than that, we walk because we believe in something bigger:

That transformation is not about one dramatic moment.
It’s about the mindset you bring to each step after that moment.

My Moment Was Real—But the Mindset Is What Changed Me

For me, the moment that changed my life happened on April 24, 2019.

I was set to begin paternity leave. My daughter had just turned two months old.
Instead of enjoying that milestone, I found myself in the emergency room—sick, overwhelmed, and exhausted from years of neglecting myself.

That was the moment I decided to change.
But I now realize: the moment didn’t change me.

The mindset I adopted after that night—the one I practiced every single day after—that’s what changed me.

From Compliments to Action

As I began to walk, fast, read, and reflect—people began to take notice.
At first, I’d hear: “I’m proud of you.”
Then it became: “How can I do what you’re doing?”
Then came: “Can I walk with you?”

And that’s how the One Step Walking Club was born.

What started as a private transformation became a public invitation.

Not just to move—but to become mindful.
Not just to walk—but to walk with intention.

What I Had to Unlearn

Before I could become someone worth following, I had to unlearn a few things.

For years, I saw myself only as the person who supported others.
I helped other people lead. I gave advice. I stayed behind the scenes.

And while that role came with pride, it also came with fear.
Fear of being seen. Fear of leading my own mission. Fear of owning my own space.

What helped me move past that fear was support—from the very same people I had once supported.

I had to unlearn invisibility.
I had to relearn what it meant to show up.

What I Hope My Daughter Learns From Me

Every step I take is about more than my own healing.
It’s about modeling something deeper for my daughter.

And if she remembers only one lesson from watching me walk, it’s this:

Be a friend. Always.

That might sound simple. But in today’s world, being kind, magnetic, generous, and thoughtful is a true superpower.

We walk better—and farther—when we’re walking with others.
And being a friend is what keeps people walking with you.

A Step You Can Take Today: Track Before You Transform

If you feel stuck… like you’re not growing… like you’ve been waiting on some “big moment” to kickstart your next chapter—try this instead:

Track your life for 30 days.
Every step. Every meal. Every conversation. Every thought.

Write it down. Use your notes app. Use your journal.
Then step back and look at the patterns.

You might realize:

  • You’re spending too much time on distractions

  • You’re consuming things that drain you

  • You’re around people who don’t reflect who you want to become

And then—ask yourself:

What thoughts am I subscribed to?

Because even if you don’t watch the content, if you’re still subscribed, you’re still paying for it.

Final Word: Romanticize the Progress, Not the Pain

We’ve been conditioned to romanticize pain.
To believe that we need trauma to transform.

But here’s what I’ll always stand on:

You don’t need to be destroyed to rebuild.
You don’t need to collapse to evolve.
You don’t need a breakdown to begin your breakthrough.

All you need is a step.
Then another.
Then another.

That’s what the One Step Walking Club is all about.
It’s not a race. It’s a rhythm.
A decision to walk out of the shadows—one step at a time.

Want to walk with us? The One Step Walking Club is more than a wellness initiative. It’s a movement for reflection, connection, and daily progress.
