Walk Tall, Walk Strong
Most of us think of walking as the simplest form of movement. It's something we’ve been doing since childhood without giving it much thought. But how we walk makes a difference. Posture is more than appearance; it’s the foundation of efficient, safe movement.
When you’re on the trail this week, focus on alignment:
-
Shoulders back, not rounded. This opens your chest and improves breathing.
-
Chin up, eyes forward. Looking ahead instead of down keeps your spine straight and protects your neck.
-
Core engaged. A light tightening of your abdominal muscles supports your lower back and stabilizes each step.
Walking with strong posture does two things. First, it reduces strain on your joints, especially hips and knees. Second, it increases efficiency; meaning you get more out of the same effort. Good posture keeps you walking further, faster, and with less fatigue.
This week’s invitation is simple: as you walk, check in with your body. Every half mile, do a quick scan: shoulders, chin, core. Small corrections can change the way you feel during and after your walk.
